PDR: The smart answer to vehicle damage

What is Paintless Dent Repair (PDR)?

Paintless dent repair, commonly known as paint-free dent repair, is the process of repairing door bumps, hail damage, and even some major damage without the use of repainting after denting. A trained and experienced dent repair technician uses a variety of tools to access the dent from the back of the component and then slowly “massage” it out to restore the damaged component to its original state.

If repaired properly, the damaged area can often be fully restored, whether it is a small dent or major hail damage.

The Process

The most common methods of PDR use metal bars and body picks to push the dents from the inside of the body part to be repaired. In addition, glue can be used from the outside of the panel to pull out the dents. In both cases, fine tuning of the repair often means that the repair is “knocked off” to remove small heights and flatten the surface.

The paint-free dent removal repair can be applied to both aluminum and steel plates. If a technician presses too hard as soon as he causes these high points, the paint will shatter and the repair will be ruined. Quality engineers can use these barely visible elevation points to adjust the texture of the color.

The Technology

The technology of PDR has been around for many years. Fluorescent lighting, or in some cases a light reflecting plate, is used to see the shadows created by the deformation of the dent. This is an important aspect of the repair process. Without a light or reflector plate, the fine detail of the process is invisible, and the technician can not pinpoint his tool and eliminate the damage accurately.

The process of paintless dent repair requires that a technician push the precise locations of the metal to a specific height, which can only be achieved with special tools as described above.

The Advantages

Value: In contrast to conventional body repair, PDR does not damage the factory finish of your vehicle, preserving the value of the car. Conventional repair can actually reduce the value of the vehicle.

Time: Repairs (depending on size and scale) can usually be done within about a day, compared to 4-6 days in a typical body shop.

Longevity: The PDR process removes the dent completely without the possibility of the same dent ever returning.

Even more Advantages

  • No repainting or filling necessary for a Paintless Dent Repair.
  • The process takes less time than a conventional dent repair.
  • No risk of incorrect color matching after PDR.
  • The vehicle retains the original factory finish.
  • A preferred form of damage repair of insurance.
  • Environmentally friendly repair of hail and / or dents damage.
